My Maternal Sixteenth Great Grandfather, Baron Laurence de Warren

Baron Laurence Warren was the oldest son of Sir John Warren and Eleanor Gerard. He married first Margaret Legh (Leigh) and with her had all of his children. Edward, Laurence, George, Randle, Richard and nine daughters, Cicely, Mabel, Ellen, Margaret, Dorothy, Anne, Katherine, Jane and Isabel. Laurence’s second wife was Sybil, widow of William Honford, about 1525, with no known children.

Laurence was the son of John de Warren, Baron of Stopfords and Eleanor Gerrard. Laurence Warren, Esq. married first Margaret, daughter of Sir Piers (also called Perkin) Leigh of Lyme, Cheshire, England.The marriage settlement, dated July 1494, Lawrence being then eighteen years of age, provides, that if he died before consummation, another son was to marry her. By her he had fourteen children. Cecily who married a Coleshull; Mabel who married Roger Beke, Sergeant-at-arms;Sir Edward who continued the descent; Helen who married Roger Downes of Shrigley; Margaret who married Robert Hyde of Norbury; Dorothy married first a Norton, and second to Hugh Davenport, deputy steward of Macclesfield; Ranulph who married Elizabeth, daughter of Henry Catherall; Ann who married George Kighley of Kighley, Yorks; Catherine who married Nicholas Bradbury of Ollerset, Derbyshire; Jane who married George Chatterton; Isabel; Laurence;George; another Edward. Laurence married secondly Sibil, who was widow of William Honford. They had no children and she survived him.Laurence’s will was dated November 18, 1529, and proved 1531. He died September 18 1531.
